Research Assistant or Associate in multimodal characterisation of gas adsorption under humid conditions
Location: South Kensington, London
Job Summary
The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking one Research Assistant or Associate to join the multidisciplinary project InFUSE whose aim is to tackle the transition to net zero pollution. This post aims at studying water competition in physical adsorption of gases by porous solids for carbon dioxide capture. Water is ever-present in industrial streams and the prospect of designing sorbents that can capture a wet stream promises to reduce the energy penalty of the separation. The structuring of the sorbent into a macroscopic form to enable, and ideally optimize, mass and heat transfer is a critical element in this analysis.
Duties and responsibilities
Your main responsibility will be to design and carry out experiments to characterise competitive adsorption of humid gas mixtures in porous adsorbents. You shall use, and adapt where necessary, bespoke instruments available in our laboratories to study adsorption equilibria and kinetics across the range of relevant length scales, including methods based on multimodality imaging. You will also apply numerical methods for interpretation of the generated data sets and to assess process performance.
Essential requirements
The key requirement for the post is a proven track record in the experimental characterisation of porous materials and adsorption processes using a range of techniques and/or in the use computational tools to analyse these systems across a range of length-scales.
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £41,694 – £44,888 per annum.
Further Information
You can start immediately and ideally no later than by 1 September 2024. The contract will run for 18 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension subject to research funding. The post is based in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus).
Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Dr Ronny Pini (r.pini@imperial.ac.uk).
Apply online via the above ‘Apply’ button. Candidates will need to complete an online application.
Further information about the post is available in the job description.
