Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in the laboratory of Dr Ramanujan Hegde at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). The role is to work within a programme aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms of protein maturation, quality control, and protein misfolding diseases. Specifically, to undertake research to investigate the mechanistic basis of protein quality control of newly synthesized proteins.
You should have a PhD in a subject relevant to the envisioned project such as cell biology, particularly in the area of protein translation, maturation, quality control, and stress responses, or be due to complete a PhD within 6 months. An essential skill for this project would be a high level of proficiency in ability to work with proteins. Experience of having worked with cell-based experimental systems, including mammalian cultured cells is a requirement as is a deep knowledge of protein biogenesis, quality control, and stress responses. Other experience that would be useful for the envisioned project is in core methods of cell biology and biochemistry including: microscopy, protein analysis, biochemical assays of protein modification, protein purification, mass spectrometry, molecular biology and with in vitro reconstitution methods.
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist for our 3-year Career Development Fellowship/ Postdoctoral Training Scheme. This is a training and development position suitable for you if you have recently completed your doctoral studies, or you are looking to move into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop your research skills.
