About us

The King's British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centre of Research Excellence was established through a national competition in April 2008 and was successfully renewed in 2014, 2019 and 2024. The mission of the Centre is to improve outcomes for patients with cardiovascular conditions through research-led discovery and innovation. The Centre brings together over 110 internationally renowned scientists and clinicians from the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences and other Schools within the Faculty, who are focused on basic and applied work that leads to advances in the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of heart diseases. Our ethos is to stimulate novel cutting-edge research by catalysing interactions across disciplines, including those between basic scientists and clinicians (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/scmms/bhf-centre), with a major focus on leveraging additional grant income.

About the role

The Centre Research Manager is a dedicated post for the King’s BHF Centre. With a very strong background in science, the post-holder will play a pivotal role in research planning, implementation and management of Centre activities as well as contributing to strategic development of the BHF Centre’s work. Reporting directly to Profs Shah and Giacca, the post-holder will provide overall operational coordination and management for the King’s BHF Centre, driving productive interactions between the participating research groups within the Centre, across the Faculty, the wider university and, where appropriate, with external partners. As a member of PS staff, the post holder will also report to the School Manager. The post-holder will be expected to help develop strategy and policies in support of the King’s BHF Centre’s objectives, and in response to the research and educational priorities identified by the BHF Centre Steering Group. This will require close collaboration with researchers, PGR students and professional services. The post-holder will also lead on Centre educational activities, including the organisation of seminars, visits, technology workshops and an Annual Symposium.
