Background

The Department of International Politics has established an international reputation as a centre of excellence in Comparative Politics, International Political Economy, International Relations, and Modern History. The Department offers an exceptional and varied programme of study, which includes six undergraduate programmes (BA History, BA History and Politics, BSc International Political Economy, BSc International Politics, BSc International Politics and Sociology, BSc Politics), four MA programmes (MA Foreign Policy and Diplomacy, MA Global Political Economy, MA International Politics and Human Rights, MA International Politics) and a PhD programme. The Department contributes to interdisciplinary BA Journalism, Politics and History.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will produce internationally recognised or world-leading research outputs consistent with the terms of the Research Excellence Framework and generate research income through applications for research funding. The successful candidate will deliver an exciting and challenging education, covering core history modules in our programmes, as well as contributing new and substantive thematic modules. The appointee should be able to contribute to the department’s collective efforts and ambitions beyond research and teaching, including administrative roles.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Modern History or cognate field, be an internationally outstanding researcher with an excellent publication record and research expertise in Modern History. Applications from candidates with expertise in Modern African or Modern Latin American History are particularly encouraged. It is essential for applicants to produce internationally recognised or world-leading research outputs consistent with the terms of the Research Excellence Framework. Preferably, applicants will have experience of grant capture and/or experience of engagement with the public, policymakers, and external stakeholders.
