The Role
Maynooth University seeks an outstanding academic to join our staff as Professor to lead our Department of Sport Science & Nutrition and develop further the discipline of sport and exercise science within the University. The person appointed should have a strong track record in the area of teaching and educational innovation and experience in the development of new programmes at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Developing a strong research activity in this area is a key objective of the University and the appointed person should have an excellent record in research, scholarship and publication, ideally in one of the fields of exercise physiology (clinical or performance), health and physical activity, rehabilitation and injury prevention, but also capable of leading on an interdisciplinary approach to the subject.
Maynooth University has recently launched a number of programmes in the thematic area of sport and exercise science - with a focus on human health and well-being, rehabilitation, and healthy aging. This initiative builds on our existing expertise in the related areas of life sciences, psychology, and business. The successful applicant will help develop the existing undergraduate programmes and create new postgraduate programmes in the area of sport and exercise science. As Head of Department they will also support the development of programmes in the area of food and nutrition. They are expected to help maintain their own ongoing research activities and encourage the growth of interdisciplinary research activity in the general area of health and wellbeing in the university.
