Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.
We seek an excellent Assistant Professor to join the Department of Electronic Engineering team. Our department provides a collaborative environment that supports researchers to further develop their academic careers. The person appointed will have an innovative approach to teaching and research with a publication record appropriate to their career stage. We are committed to improving gender balance in science and engineering and are currently developing our Departmental Gender Action Plan for an Athena Swan Ireland Bronze Award.
We particularly welcome candidates with an established research record in the areas of autonomous systems, multi-robot systems, agri-robotics, and human-robot interaction in healthcare. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of an international standard. Evidence of initiating independent research and obtaining external funding will be an advantage. Translating technology into practical use is a core value of Engineering, and our experienced staff will provide mentorship and support for researchers seeking to translate their research into practice.
The candidate will contribute to the department's teaching programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. One of our core pedagogical practices is problem-based learning (PBL), which combines diverse teams and external partners to balance theory and practice in engineering education. Academics mentor the PBL teams and supervise final-year projects, MSc, and PhD students. Candidates desiring to develop new modules or programmes in bio-engineering are encouraged to apply.
The appointee will be expected to build a research profile, including affiliating with one or more of Maynooth’s Research Institutes where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research programmes.
