Location: Department of Infectious Disease, Faculty of Medicine, St Mary’s Paddington, moving to South Kensington Campus in the Summer of 2024
Job Summary
The post holder will support and lead the clinical development of a range of novel vaccine candidates, contributing to a range of both industry and investigator led early phase clinical trials, with the ultimate aim of helping to prevent and control infectious diseases through vaccination. Clinical studies will be focused on improving understanding of mRNA based vaccine safety and efficacy, supporting the design, development, and conduct of clinical trials, as well as research aimed at understanding the immune-biology of novel vaccine candidates. The Clinical Vaccinology Fellow will work under the supervision of Dr Claire Waddington (Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer) and Professor Robin Shattock (Head of Mucosal Infection and Immunity, Department of Medicine), and will be responsible for ensuring that all studies are conducted in accordance with regulatory and ethical standards. The Fellow will have the opportunity to present research findings at national and international conferences and contribute to research publications, and it is anticipated that work undertaken could contribute towards the completion of a higher degree (MD or PhD).
This position offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated physician with an interest in vaccinology and clinical research to develop their skills clinical trials and vaccine development, and to make a real impact in the field of vaccinology.
Duties and responsibilities
The post holder will hold an honorary clinical contract with the appropriate NHS Trust/s and will be expected to take on clinical responsibilities appropriate to their level of experience and expertise.
