The Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies is a world-leading centre for the study of psychoanalysis and the talking therapies, the role of the unconscious mind in mental health, culture and society, and the many psychosocial factors which influence our lives.

Our degrees and research focus on the intrapsychic, interpersonal and psychosocial engagement with issues of immediate contemporary relevance in society, culture, care, refugees, race, gender and sexualities, politics, management and organisational functioning, childhood, and mental health and wellbeing. Our transformative programme of education and research aims to have a positive impact on society and ultimately to transform it.  Ours is an exciting department undergoing a period of expansion in teaching programmes, student numbers, research activities and academic staff.

As such, we are delighted that we can now appoint a Lecturer in Jungian Studies on a permanent, part-time basis (0.5 FTE, 18 hours per week), starting on 1 September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Duties of the Role

You will teach on our MA Jungian and Post-Jungian Studies and BA Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies and will offer an excellent quality of student support. You will take up a module leadership role in some of these programmes and supervise MA and UG dissertations. You will supervise research students undertaking PhDs and Professional Doctorates in your areas of specialism.

In addition, you will conduct high quality research leading to publications in peer reviewed international journals and contribute the requisite number of high-quality peer reviewed items to PPS’ submission to REF.

A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found within the job pack.

Qualifications and Skills required

The successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level research degree in Jungian and Post-Jungian Studies or equivalent area (or be close to completion of such a degree) coupled with a relevant Master’s level degree in Analytical Psychology, Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy, Counselling, or other relevant area, or equivalent professional experience or practice.

You will have experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels or possess demonstrable potential to achieve this. In addition, you will have evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile, with a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.

You will need to be committed to participating positively in a growing department and helping to create and sustain a top-quality learning and research community. Finally, you will have the capacity to take a key role in the department in due course.

As an enabling academic environment for all our students and staff we are committed to the principles of Athena Swan and equality for all. We particularly welcome applications from those who are from an ethnic minority, or identify as female or non-binary, to improve their representation in PPS.
