The School of Computer Science and Engineering is a dynamic, research diverse and highly research active school in the UK. Its research is funded by research councils (home and EU) and industry. The school has a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students and is well-equipped for teaching and research. The Microwave and RF Research Lab in the school is long-established and internationally known for many original & seminal contributions of its members to the field.

Duties of the Role

This research work aims to realise a novel broadband mm-wave full-duplex radio system for applications in 5G/6G & LO satellite communications at mm-waves. This project is funded by the EPSRC and its primary objectives are research & development of suitable mm-wave antennas and mm-wave active & passive circuits necessary for the delivery of the radio system. The successful candidate will be a member of the Microwave and RF Research Lab and will work towards achieving the aim & objectives of the project. The successful candidate will also possess good/effective verbal and written communication skills for ordering equipment/components, contributing to meetings, preparing reports/patents/scientific papers, taking active role to liaise with industry and academia to further project applications and impact, and will be expected to travel for project meetings, partner interactions, and conference and workshop presentations. This is a joint research project with University of Westminster and hence there is a strong interaction and regular meetings among the two teams.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful candidate will ideally hold a PhD in a relevant discipline, is expected to have sufficient background in theory, design/computer-simulation, clean-room/micro-milling machine/3D-printing fabrication and measurement of mm-wave antennas and active & passive circuits as well as in applied electromagnetics and RF/microwave wireless communication systems. Experienced applicants with good relevant qualifications lower than a PhD will also be considered for the post.
