Job Summary
This Health Impact Fellowship (clinical research fellow) post is hosted by the newly formed Health Impact Lab (Hi Lab), founded in response to the urgent need for health and life sciences ecosystems to progress beyond efficacy and effectiveness research into implementation science. Hi Lab builds on a five-year team track record for bringing technology-powered clinical pathways into direct clinical care – fully realising the potential of “innovation” by implementing, studying, and optimising of the contextual factors that underpin maximal impact.
Hi Lab operates a clinical-pathway-first philosophy, taking an approach to implementing MedTech and digital health technologies (DHTs) only where a potential pentad of impact – clinical, health economic, patient-centric, workforce, and sustainability – is sufficiently compelling and understood. Led by practising clinicians who are also academics, Hi Lab’s portfolio of work is now broadening beyond cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic health, applying a focused “go-to-care” methodology to some of the health system’s biggest problems.
This post brings an exciting opportunity to lead, with support, the day-to-day execution of a vanguard Hi Lab programme: TRICORDER-PLUS. This is the UK’s first study applying a point-of-care artificial intelligence technology for triple cardiovascular disease to high-risk primary care cohorts across several UK geographies. TRICORDER-PLUS is designed as a precursor study to underpin a national screening programme. This work is principally funded by the British Heart Foundation and delivered by Hi Lab in close and unprecedented collaboration with NHS Integrated Care Systems, the National Screening Committee, industry collaborators, and the Pumping Marvellous patient charity.
Duties and responsibilities
There will be scope for incorporating the implementation of technology-emabled pathway(s) in the Fellow’s preferred sub-speciality to underpin registering with Imperial for a MD(Res)/PhD degree, or post-doctoral research.
Clinical Responsibilities
The post holder will hold an honorary clinical contract with the appropriate NHS Trust(s) and will flexibly be expected to take clinical responsibilities appropriate to their level of experience and expertise.
