The Faculty of English and Literature is seeking to appoint a full-time Departmental Lecturer to a two-year fixed-term teaching and research post in Old English Literature to cover Professor Francis Leneghan’s teaching while he is on a period of externally-funded research leave. It is anticipated that the appointee will take up the post on 1 September 2024.

You will be expected to deliver up to 36 hours of Faculty lectures, classes, or seminars per year within the period 650-1350. Within this, the main focus of the Departmental Lecturer’s teaching responsibilities will be defined by the needs of the wider period group, but it is expected that they will include undergraduate lectures or classes on Old and Early Middle English topics and contributions to teaching on the MSt in English Literature (650-1550 strand) and the MPhil in English Studies. You will also be expected to offer up to 4 hours per week of undergraduate tutorial teaching for colleges, to undertake dissertation supervision and examining, to assist with admissions for the MSt, and to pursue independent research in the area of Old English literature.

You should have a research and publication record in Old English Literature, and must possess a doctorate in an appropriate area. You must also have experience of undergraduate teaching.
