Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by the rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new and cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” to substitute the conventional one characterized by “school” and “department”, facilitating cross-disciplinary integration while vigorously developing emerging and frontier disciplines. The Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Thrust (https://dsa.hkust-gz.edu.cn/), an academic department under Information Hub, HKUST(GZ), now invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at any rank (Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor). DSA Thrust advances data science and analytics by unifying statistics, machine learning, optimization, computer science, and their related techniques. It also expands the applications of data science and analytics to solve real world problems and to benefit society. DSA Thrust welcomes applicants with research focus in the following areas, including but not limited to: 

• Data-driven AI & Machine Learning
• Statistical Learning and Modeling
• Industrial and Business Analytics
• Sector-Specific Data Analytics
• Data Visualization and Infographics
• High-Performance Systems for Data Analytics
• Security and Privacy
• AI4Science

Qualification of Candidates

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree and work in one or more areas related to the Thrust.

• Applicants for tenure-track Assistant Professor should demonstrate strong research and teaching potentials.
• Applicants for Associate Professor should have a proven record in research, teaching, student supervision, and funding.
• Applicants for Professor should have world-class academic achievements, international academic leadership, and an established track record in teaching, student supervision and funding.

The post is a tenure-track appointment in the Chinese mainland and to be offered by the HKUST(GZ) in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations. The appointment to Professor rank or some Associate Professor rank will be made on a substantive basis with tenure, while initial appointment to other tenure-track faculty ranks will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to six years.
