About the role

The University has embarked on an exciting series of programme initiatives with a range of STEMM degree programmes in China (PRC). Applications are sought from suitably qualified English language tutors to teach on intensive on-campus EAP courses at Chongqing Medical University and Dalian Leicester Institute.

The successful applicants will be required to prepare, evaluate and assess learning on courses designed to prepare international students for study on university degree programmes. As an EAP tutor, you will be responsible for teaching credit-bearing English for Academic Purposes modules to undergraduates in semester 1 and 2

The partnership between the University of Leicester and Dalian University of Technology welcomed its first cohort in September 2017. Based in Panjin, the Joint Educational Institute recruits students onto four-year joint award BSc degrees in Chemistry, Engineering and Maths.  Subjects are taught by subject lecturers using English as a medium of instruction and CITE is responsible for delivering 60 credits of English for Academic and Specific Academic Purposes to Year 1 students across two semesters and Year 2 students in semester 2. 

EAP tutor at Chongqing Medical University

The partnership between the University of Leicester and Chongqing Medical University welcomed its first cohort in 2020.  Based in University Town, Chongqing, the Joint Educational Institute recruits students onto five-year dual-award BSc degrees in Clinical Sciences, Psychology and Physiotherapy.  Students are taught by subject lecturers in Mandarin and in English and CITE is responsible for delivering 60 credits of English for Specific and English for Medical purposes to Year 1 students across two semesters.

About you
We are seeking EAP tutors who can teach high-quality lessons within a communicative approach. You should be able to adapt to institutional and student needs and be willing to collaborate with colleagues in the ongoing development of the English language programme. Additionally, as this is a collaborative provision delivered offshore, you should be able to adapt to unpredictable challenges both inside and outside the classroom. You will hold a recognised TEFLI qualification, such as CELTA or the equivalent, with substantial experience EFL. You will also have experience of teaching on pre-sessional or in-sessional EAP courses in a university context.

Interviews will take place via Teams or face to face in Leicester at a mutually convenient date. Candidates short-listed for interview will be contacted by the University. Contract Information

Applicants will be asked as part of the application process which contract they are applying for. Choices are:

  • EAP tutor at Dalian Leicester Institute
  • EAP tutor at Chongqing Medical University
  • Both
  • Both with a preference for Dalian Leicester Institute
  • Both with a preference for Chongqing Medical University

Recruitment for two-semester positions will take priority but we will consider applications for a one-semester contract.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 because the appointee will have substantial access to young people and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, an appointment to this post will be subject to checking through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The successful applicant for this post will, therefore, be required to give consent for the University to check and obtain appropriate clearance with the DBS for the existence and content of any criminal record in the form of an enhanced level check with child barred list.

Information received from the DBS and the police will be kept in strict confidence and will be destroyed once the University is satisfied in this regard.
