The School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine is seeking to appoint Lecturer in Comparative Genomics (Research & Teaching Track) to make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School/College by developing a research profile of international standard and by contributing to high quality teaching and research funding applications in comparative genomics. You will also actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach.
Applications are invited from candidates demonstrating potential to become internationally recognised leaders in comparative genomics and associated omics technologies. We are looking for a candidate who will complement our existing strengths in clinical veterinary medicine, evolutionary biology, and animal physiology, with a demonstrable interest in using domestic mammals among their study systems. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with a track record of studying health related traits and their underlying genomic basis in livestock and companion animals. Traits of specific interest include those related to metabolism, ageing, and disease (e.g. cancer, autoimmune diseases, neuromuscular disorders).
The School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine is home to researchers studying organismal biology and animal health across a diverse range of systems, approaches and disciplines with existing strengths in infectious disease, physiology, ageing, veterinary epidemiology, and evolution among others. You will be based on the University of Glasgow’s Garscube campus, where the majority of veterinary teaching and research infrastructure is located. This includes the Small Animal Hospital (a recent £15M investment) and our Veterinary Diagnostic Services, offering excellent opportunities for collaborative research at the clinical and translational interface, especially with respect to companion animals. Other relevant units located on the Garscube campus include the Glasgow Equine Hospital & Practice the Scottish Centre for Production Animal Health & Food Safety, the CRUK’s Beatson Institute for Cancer Research and the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research. You will further benefit from recent College investment and reorganisation of shared research facilities, providing access to high-level equipment and support for protein, molecular and cellular analyses as well as bioinformatics and research computing.
