Pembroke College wishes to appoint a part-time College Lecturer (Career Development) in Non-Physical Applied Mathematics, for two years, from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2027.
We welcome applicants with expertise in Non-Physical Applied Mathematics. We have an active Mathematics community in Pembroke, you will be mentored by senior academics and work alongside a number of early career academics and researchers in the college.
All of our teaching is in small groups (tutorials of two students and classes of up to six). We expect you mainly to teach Non-Physical Applied Maths to students in the first and second years of the degrees in Mathematics, Maths and Philosophy and Maths and Computer Science; and to students on their Junior Year Abroad from Universities in the USA, Hong Kong and China who are studying Mathematics.
The course handbook gives you a useful introduction to the course at Oxford.
The postholder will be required to provide teaching for an average of four hours’ contact time per week during the eight weeks of Oxford’s three terms. You will be expected to set and mark weekly problem sheets, set and mark college exams, and participate in undergraduate admissions. You will also take on some administrative and pastoral responsibilities, including organising teaching and helping students to adjust to the course in their first term at Oxford.
This is a fixed term career development post, intended to give an early career academic the opportunity to develop skills in teaching and administration. College lectureships of this type are not intended as full-time posts and will often be most suitable for doctoral students in the final stages of their degree or postdocs holding other posts who are seeking additional teaching experience.
The salary will be in the range of £11,046-£12,205 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. You will have a teaching and research allowance of £853.67 per annum, use of a room for teaching, and you will also be able to take some lunches and dinners free of charge in College throughout the year. All salary figures are 2024-25 rates and are subject to annual uplift.
This is a College vacancy and the terms and conditions of the post are available at https://www.pmb.ox.ac.uk/work-with-us along with the Further Particulars. The University Terms and Conditions shown elsewhere on this site do not apply to this post.
Applicants should submit their curriculum vitae and covering letter electronically to the Academic HR Administrator (academichr@pmb.ox.ac.uk) by 9am (BST) on Monday, 26 May 2025. Please send us the names and contact details of two referees who may be contacted if you are invited to interview. Interviews are planned to be held on Friday, 6 June 2025.
