Assistant/Associate Professor in Economics & Policy

University of Cambridge - Judge Business School

Location: Cambridge
Salary: Competitive
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 25th April 2025
Closes: 1st September 2025
Job Ref: NS44865

Since 1990, Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) has forged a reputation as a centre of rigorous thinking and high-impact transformative education, situated within one of the world's most prestigious research universities, and in the heart of the Cambridge Cluster, the most successful technology entrepreneurship cluster in Europe.

Cambridge Judge Business School is a highly ranked modern business school (ranked 1st in the most recent UK Research Excellence Framework in 2021), located at the heart of an 800-year-old University, with an ambitious and collegial faculty in the Economics & Policy group. The group has developed a reputation for research that is rigorous, original, and consequential, as evidenced by a strong publication record, deep engagement with regulators and practitioners, and high-profile media coverage. Economics & Policy faculty publish regularly in leading economics journals, including the American Economic Review, European Journal of Political Economy, and The Review of Economics and Statistics.

The Economics & Policy group at CJBS is looking to recruit an Assistant/Associate Professor in Economics & Policy (with or without tenure, depending on the candidate's record). Our group aims to enhance its global visibility through high-impact research outputs, including publications in leading Economics journals and the successful placement of PhD graduates in academic careers.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong record of impactful research, evidenced by their publications and a robust pipeline of working papers. Additionally, candidates should possess excellent teaching experience in premium business school programmes (such as Master of Finance, MBA, Executive MBA) and Executive Education engagements.

Although we will consider candidates in all areas of economics and policy, preference will be given to candidates doing research and teaching in the following areas:

  • Economics of energy
  • Climate change and the environment
  • Behavioural economics and policy
  • Industrial economics and regulatory policy
  • Economics of innovation, AI and the internet
  • Innovation policy and trade policy

You will be expected to contribute to teaching courses at undergraduate, graduate, and post-experience levels. However, our teaching loads are relatively low by US and European standards, allowing you to focus on research. The teaching associated with the post may cover core and elective courses on the MBA, EMBA, MFin, MPhil/PhD programmes, and undergraduate/tripos programmes. Project administration and dissertation supervision are also expected in this role.

We are looking for an anticipated start date of between 1 September 2025 and 1 September 2026 and offer a competitive package of benefits.

We particularly welcome applications from female candidates and/or individuals from a BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) background for this vacancy. Currently, these groups are underrepresented at this level within our department.

If you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply promptly. The closing date for this advertisement may be earlier than initially indicated should a number of suitably qualified candidates submit applications. We also reserve the right to extend the closing date, if necessary, until the position is filled.
