The Role:

The Student Success Team Leader is a pivotal role designed to lead, coordinate, and drive the success of the Student Success Tutors (SSTs) in the designated campus. With a firm commitment to academic excellence, inclusion, and progression, this role ensures the consistent delivery of personalised support services to students. The postholder will oversee campus student success activities, mentor staff, and use data to inform strategic interventions that improve student engagement, retention, and outcomes. The Team Leader will play a proactive role in developing frameworks, maintaining quality, and building strong partnerships with academic departments and support teams.

Responsibilities include :

  • Oversee the delivery of academic and pastoral support provided by SSTs to cohorts of students (typically 150+ per tutor).
  • Ensure students receive proactive, tailored support through structured SMART goals, progress tracking, and appropriate referrals.
  • Lead on the identification and intervention strategies for ‘at-risk’ students across departments.
  • Work with SSTs to promote engagement with workshops, 1:1 support, and academic skills resources.
  • Monitor SST activity and student interactions using data management tools and institutional reporting systems.
  • Liaise with academic departments, wellbeing, and central services to ensure collaborative student support.
  • Develop and maintain training and development plans for SSTs.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement in coaching practice, learning development, and service delivery.
  • Facilitate and contribute to Student Success strategic working groups and cross-campus forums.
  • Provide impact evaluation reports for institutional and external reporting.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and operational management to the SST team across campuses.
  • Support the Head of Student Success in the creation and implementation of a framework for SST practice including 1:1 support, referrals, workshops, and tracking.
Requirements

Essential :

  • An experienced and qualified educator with a background in Further/Higher Education (F/HE) or Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Social Sciences, or related field
  • PGCE, QTS or equivalent teaching or academic development qualification
  • Experience of teaching academic skills in the UK.
  • Significant experience in academic or student support within a further or higher education setting.
  • Technologically proficient with digital tools (e.g., LMS, CRM, data dashboards).
  • Clear understanding of safeguarding, Prevent, and inclusive education frameworks.

Desirable :

  • Master’s degree in Education, Leadership, or relevant field.
  • Fellowship of Advance HE (or willingness to achieve).
  • Formal coaching, mentoring, or management qualifications.
