About the Role

Applications are invited for a motivated postdoctoral scientist to contribute to an exciting interdisciplinary immuno-oncology project in the field of pancreatic cancer. This project will investigate the biological effects of focused ultrasound (FUS) therapy in pancreatic cancer, with a particular emphasis on tumour immunity.

The project is co-led by Dr. Keaton Jones, Clinical Lecturer in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery, and Dr. Michael Gray, Senior Researcher in Therapeutic Ultrasound. The research is further supported by Professor Eric O’Neill (Oncology), who leads a large research group focused on pancreatic cancer immunobiology.

The role will be based across the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBME) and the Department of Oncology, with an expected split of approximately 50:50 between these departments. This position offers opportunities to develop expertise in the technical aspects of focused ultrasound, animal models of pancreatic cancer, mouse surgery and immunological laboratory techniques.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated laboratory scientist who demonstrates initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Scientists from all disease backgrounds are encouraged to apply, provided they have relevant experience in cell and molecular biology. A PhD/DPhil in Biochemistry, Cell/Molecular Biology, or a related field is essential with relevant laboratory experience. The candidate must hold a Home Office Personal Licence (PIL A/B) for animal work. In addition, the successful candidate will either have expertise in ultrasound therapy, or experience with general molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, protein and RNA purification, gel electrophoresis, cell culture) and immunological techniques (e.g. western blotting, immunofluorescence, FACS)

Training and support will be provided for candidates who have a stronger background in one area but require additional experience in others.

This full-time post is available from 2 June 2025 and is fixed-term for 12 months in the first instance (with a potential extension up to 36 months). We would be willing to consider applications for part-time hours.
