About the role

The University of Leicester, School of Healthcare, started an unique and class-leading MPharm program in September 2024 which will fully prepare our graduates for the foundation year and expectations to train as an independent pharmacist prescriber.  We are looking to appoint a lecturer who is able to develop and deliver learning in a broad range of clinical topics relating to the prescribing, supply and use of medicines, in particular: clinical skills; communication and consultation skills, prescribing and therapeutics; professionalism, ethics & law and contribute to the delivery of pharmacology, physiology and anatomy.  There will be opportunities to supervise coursework; to develop student masters-level projects for the fourth year students – but this is, in the first instance, a teaching-focussed post.

The successful candidate will be joining a group of academics from clinical and science backgrounds and a team of Senior Clinical Supervisors, all practising pharmacists seconded from our placement partner organisations, who are developing a fully integrated clinically-focussed curriculum which includes long, 13-week placements in each of the first three years; a supervised clinical service and an elective in the fourth year.  The curriculum is being developed using team, case and problem based learning approaches delivered primarily through a combination of directed learning, workshops and seminars.  An interest in and aptitude for developing innovative teaching materials and approaches is important.

About you

We are looking for an individual who holds a pharmacy or related degree at 2:1 or above with previous experience of University teaching, preferably at undergraduate and level and/or experiential learning and assessment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching clinical practice, including prescribing and the underpinning clinical science in the context that it will be used in practice so that our students can apply what they know to solving patient problems.  They will have excellent organisational, interpersonal and presentation skills and be strong team players able to contribute to developing learning materials with others and to co-teaching workshops and seminars with clinical colleagues.

This post provides an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist with teaching experience to develop their education and training skills, whilst joining a dynamic and expanding pharmacy team at the University of Leicester. Whilst embedded in an expanding the MPharm team, the post holder will be expected to lead  modules for first and second year students in 2026/27 and to contribute to the development and standard setting of assessments.  You will be expected to act as a Personal Tutor so an interest in student welfare and support will be important – if you are not currently teaching in HE then you will be supported to develop your HE teaching and personal tutor role.
