About the role
The University of Leicester was awarded a Research Excellence Award for £3 million over five years from the British Heart Foundation. Under the leadership of Professor Andre Ng, alongside the 6 Theme Leads, a new Centre of Research Excellence will be developed. The Centre will build on our established world-leading cardiovascular research with three research themes, ‘Discovery’, ‘Interventions’ and ‘Populations’. Working across themes and with many of our Centres of research excellence for diabetes research; artificial intelligence, data analytics and modelling; environmental health and sustainability and ethnic health research demonstrating world leading research will be at the forefront of the Centre’s strategy and growth.
We are seeking a G7 Research Associate and G8 Senior Research Associate to work within each of the three themes, ‘Discovery’, ‘Interventions’ and ‘Populations’. The successful Grade 8 candidates will be expected to lead on the planning and delivery of the research programme and oversee research governance, whereas the candidates appointed to G7 will be expected to contribute to the overall research programme.
Please find the two job summary forms attached for further details on the particulars of each role. There are two positions available and the successful candidates will be appointed to either Research Associate (Grade 7) or Senior Research Associate (Grade 8) depending on experience. Please advise which post you are interested in applying for as part of your application questions.
About you
We seek highly motivated individuals with a PhD or significant equivalent experience in a relevant discipline. For the Grade 7 positions, you will have an emerging track record of delivering research projects on time and are nationally/internationally respected in your field. For the Grade 8 positions you will have a proven track record of the same abilities. You will possess extensive experience in developing and devising research models, theories, techniques and methods, and clear forward plans for sustaining and enhancing the research programme.
Experience in securing research funding and managing budgets is essential if you are expecting to be appointed at Grade 8. Join us in translating scientific breakthroughs into diagnostic tests, preventions and life-saving treatments for our patients. We do this by creating a collaborative workspace that allows scientists and clinicians to share their findings and deliver research that is relevant to both patients and the professionals who treat them.
