Lecturer in Criminology - Maternity Cover

Are you a socially engaged criminological educator and researcher? Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for someone to teach criminological theory, research methods and public policy. 

We are seeking a Lecturer in Criminology to join our interdisciplinary and critical School of Social Sciences on a 12 month, maternity-cover, contract. You will be part of a vibrant criminological team with a focus on racial and social justice.

As part of our Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty, you will have the opportunity to engage in both teaching and research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in your field.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual future of our diverse student cohort, teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate courses and you'll also contribute to our exciting research culture and environment.

You will lead on the teaching, assessment and delivery of the following modules: Research Methods and Practice, and Policy Power and Social Change at Undergraduate level; Contemporary Criminological Theory and Analysing Public Policy at Masters level.

As a Lecturer, you will:

• Teach and inspire students across various settings, from small tutorials to large lectures
• Deliver engaging teaching materials and methods
• Supervise student projects and provide academic guidance
• Engage in research activities and contribute to the school's research objectives
• Participate in outreach and engagement activities to enhance public understanding of your discipline.

The ideal Lecturer will have experience teaching core Criminological modules, particularly Criminological Theory, Research Methods and Policy Studies.

In addition, we are looking for someone with:

• A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field
• Experience in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
• A commitment to diversity and the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.

Contract

12 month, maternity cover, contract; September 25 - August 26. Full-time, 35 hours per week with evening teaching.

Salary and benefits

£43,636 rising to £60,018 per annum, Grade LLEC, quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
