We are looking for an experienced Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Officer to join the Epidemic Diseases Clinical Research Group Oxford (ERGO) at the Pandemic Sciences Institute. This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in shaping and delivering innovative public and patient engagement strategies across a high-profile, international research programme that addresses some of the most urgent threats in epidemic and pandemic preparedness.

You will be responsible for leading and managing day to day PPIE activities within ERGO, ensuring that all initiatives are delivered on time and to a high standard. You will provide support for the ISARIC PPIE network activities and the development of ISARIC PPIE fellowships. Your role will also involve providing strategic PPIE advice, overseeing engagement activities throughout all research stages and collaborating with external partners to co-develop study protocols and amendments based on PPIE feedback. Additionally, you will contribute to the group’s long-term strategy, support funding applications, and build and maintain strong working relationships with both academic and community-based partners in the UK and internationally.

It is essential that you are educated to degree level in a biomedical, health social sciences, or communications-related discipline and have experience working in PPIE within health research or a scientific organisation. You should bring a strong understanding of biomedical, clinical or health related research, excellent written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to work effectively with patients, the public, researchers and other stakeholders. You must also be highly organised, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications. Flexibility to work irregular hours when needed, and a willingness to travel both nationally and internationally, are also essential.

A postgraduate qualification in Science Communication, Public Engagement, Health Sciences, Social Sciences or a related discipline would be advantageous, as would a demonstrable track record in developing and delivering comprehensive PPIE programmes. Experience working in low-resource or global health contexts is also desirable.
