About the Role
We are looking for a clinical research fellow to investigate novel biomarkers in the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer. The fellow will co-ordinate and conduct clinical studies to validate biomarker(s) in two-week wait colorectal patients. You will be primarily responsible for the identification, recruitment, sampling, and analysis of biospecimen from these patients. They will complete a higher degree (MD(Res)) at Queen Mary University of London supervised by Dr Thaha and team. The fellow will undertake a limited clinical activity including general surgery, emergency on-calls (SHO/SpR level) and out-patient clinics at the Royal London Hospital under supervision.
About You
The post is ideal for a qualified junior doctor in training at Core Training (CT) or Specialty Training (ST) level who must have an MBBS, MRCS or equivalent degree. The fellow will have completed foundation year training and must have clinical experience working in the NHS at a minimum of Senior House Officer (SHO) level. Clinical experience in managing patients, and exposure and experience participating in general surgery on-calls at CT and or ST level is a requirement. An understanding of research process, management of clinical research data, familiarity with GCP and regulatory requirements that govern clinical research is essential. Excellent time management and communication skills are essential.

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 360 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre and supports a combined total of c700 postgraduate research and taught students.
