We are looking for a Library Assistant to deliver high quality and user focused services, in support of teaching and research, as part of a small and friendly library team in the Faculty of Classics Library. In addition to housing a wide range of traditional printed material, the Library also provides an increasing number of subject-specific electronic resources (http://www.classics.cam.ac.uk/library/).
A core part of the role is the provision of an effective, inclusive front-line service to library users. You will be responsible for staffing the library's issue desk and will play a key role in providing day-to-day user support, answering enquiries both in person and online on a wide range of topics. You will work closely with the library's collections, for example, receiving and processing new material, shelving, ordering and cataloguing. The role also involves marketing library services via social media channels, updating the VLE (Moodle) and creating reading lists online (Leganto).
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and IT skills and be able to answer student queries in person and via email or by phone. You will use your own initiative to suggest new ideas and take a creative approach to the role, for example, on social media posts. You will be flexible, committed to providing outstanding user service and able to work under pressure, both independently and as part of a small team.
Reporting to the Classics Librarian, you will join a supportive network of library staff from across the School of Arts & Humanities libraries network and will be encouraged to take up opportunities for professional development and training.
We are looking to fill this position on a full-time basis working physically in the library.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
