Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences | Birmingham City University
The subject of Law sits within the College of Law, Social and Criminal Justice and boasts a large, vibrant and diverse community of legal scholarship, learning and practice. We share a strong commitment to excellence, innovation and transformation through legal research and education and provide academic and professional legal education across all levels, from foundation year to PhD, including our flagship LLB and LLM programmes (academic and professional). Law at Birmingham City University is home to well over a thousand students and has trained many of the legal professionals in the region and beyond.
We are currently looking to appoint a Lecturer in Law. The successful candidate will contribute to all areas of activity, in particular teaching on our LLB and LLM Programmes. We would particularly encourage applications from candidates with a passion for transformative legal education and an interest in research aligned to our key strengths. More specifically, applicants should be able to teach in two or more of the following fields – Equity and Trusts, Land and Property Law, Immigration Law and Family Law.
We are extremely proud of the intimate and innovative links between our research and teaching, and we have a suite of research-led academic LLMs in International Law, International Business Law and Professional Law, which sit alongside specialist pathways within our LLB portfolio. We have a research-led philosophy regarding teaching and encourage and expect colleagues to develop and deliver teaching in their fields of passion and expertise. Our entire suite of undergraduate programmes has been designed to allow students to enjoy a curriculum which reflects the expertise of the academic community. We have a proud tradition of professional legal education and are home to a large, vibrant Law Clinic.
Informal enquiries regarding the role should be addressed to Tracey Cooper (Tracey.Cooper@bcu.ac.uk) Subject Lead for Law.
At Birmingham City University we are proud to be an equal opportunities employer. All staff are expected to understand and enact the University’s commitment to ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion in our employment practice and in all that we do. This commitment is enshrined in our Core Values and is detailed in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Employment Policy. The University values and celebrates the diversity of our staff and students; we welcome people from the many different backgrounds and life experiences that reflect the students and the citizens we serve. We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and actively encourage unique contributions, in particular from under-represented groups in respect of age, disability, sex, gender or gender identity, ethnicity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or transgender status
