The School of Geography and Environmental Science is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Human Geography. This appointment will provide cover for a research fellowship and will strengthen the Population, Health and Wellbeing (PHeW) and/or Economy, Society and Governance (ESG) research group(s). We particularly welcome applications from scholars active in one or both of the following areas:

  • Qualitative social geography, including use of ethnography, interviews, discourse analysis. Substantive interests relevant to this post include geographies of immigration; class, welfare and austerity; gender and sexuality.
  • Health geography, including social inequalities and associated health outcomes, especially as they relate to food; social environments; gender and sexuality; care.

Teaching activities for this post will be primarily on the BA Geography programmes. They will involve lectures, tutorials, practicals, seminars and/or fieldwork. You will be responsible for leading two modules: “Wellbeing, Inequality and Place” and “Geographies of Social Justice, Welfare and Rights” and you will also participate in the field trip to Amsterdam. We welcome applicants committed to teaching across these programmes, including on core introductory modules, research methods training modules and residential fieldtrips. We welcome applicants interested in, and/or experienced with, decolonising the curriculum. Training towards a Post-graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) qualification will be provided as appropriate. The School and University also offer mentorship support and a variety of opportunities for skills-building and professional development.
