About the Role

Leeds City College are recruiting for an Assessor in Education and Early Years to join our team.

We are looking for an inspiring Education and Early Years Assessor with a passion for supporting and motivating young people into employment, whether this is in Primary Education or Early Years. The ideal candidate will be passionate about students, can work independently and develop productive and professional relationships with our work placement settings.

The role will work closely with the Education and Early Years team to support students in achieving their workplace assessments and qualifications. You will primarily be based off-site and will be required to travel daily to a variety of locations in West Yorkshire. During these you will carry out and write up detailed student observations, therefore you must have a high level of written literacy.

The department has over 25 staff working within it to support approximately 600 students. Although this is an independent role, you will be part of a small team of 4 assessors and will have regular meetings and supportive check-ins with the Lead Assessor.

The Department of Education and Early Years is based at Quarry Hill Campus within the Cultural Quarter of Leeds. What You Will Do
  • Be responsible for a range of Education and Early Years students and will plan and carry out work placement assessments against nationally recognised standards.

  • Have a caseload of students to assess on placements to make assessment judgements that are mapped to competencies.

  • Formulate action plans with individual students so they are prepared for their placement assessments and understand any developments needed.

  • Ensure timely achievement of placement assessments enabling students to reach their potential as Early Year Practitioners or Assisting Teaching Practitioners.

  • Keep accurate assessment records of students with a variety of evidence. These records will be moderated by the awarding body NCFE CACHE.

  • Effective and efficient management of own appointments, schedule and student caseload.

About You
  • An excellent communicator, confident and able to build an engaging learning relationship with students to motivate them to achieve to the best of their ability.

  • Knowledge and understanding about the role of teaching assistants and early years practitioners. 

  • Ability to work independently using own initiative whilst visiting work placements, remote working and college-based working.

  • A passion and ability to inspire and motivate young people to become our future education and childcare workforce.

  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.

  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of employers and work placement teams.

  • Has a can-do attitude to all tasks and responsibilities. Flexible to meet the workload.

  • Ability to use technology to upload, track and record students’ progress.
