Are you looking for a new and unique challenge? Do you have a strategically commercial mind with an interest in clinical research? Working in the University’s largest department, the role of Business Manager will take ownership of the provision of strategic leadership and relationship management for the Centre for Human Genetics, the Division of Structural Biology, as well as across the Nuffield Department of Medicine and wider University. 

Demonstrating strong leadership, influencing and commercial skills, the Business Manager has accountability for the co-ordination and delivery of high-quality teaching and research support within their assigned research unit. The successful candidate will be the interface between professional services and the academic community, and is responsible for ensuring the alignment of support to advance the academic strategy and vision. Working with the Directors and Finance and Operations and Professional Services Heads of Function, you will define strategic and operational priorities, drive improvements, and manage the escalation of issues through to resolution, ensuring academics receive a positive experience. 

You will come from a varied senior operational background, including management of a diverse range of administrative staff, ideally in a higher education, public sector or other large and complex organisation. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of financial management and analysis as well as experience of people management and good HR practice. You will come armed with strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, and proven ability to lead, manage change and develop people. The ability to work under pressure with excellent prioritisation skills will be critical to this role, as well as excellent IT skills and expertise in the use of spreadsheets and databases.
