NPL, the UK’s national metrology institute, is developing a fully functioning, thoroughly characterised, local area quantum network (QLAN) linking heterogeneous nodes across its site. It will make this testbed available to users for testing hardware and applications. NPL will lead on the testing and security evaluation of the testbed and collaborate widely on the technology development.
The student’s research will focus on the design of this network as it evolves, and verification of its performance, or specific aspects of it. It will involve, as one component of the research, developing the Claims, Arguments, Evidence (CAE) approach to testing the quantum layers of prepare-and-measure QKD modules.
Candidates must hold UK nationality. Appointment will be subject to approval at the relevant security clearance level. The Engineering Doctorate Researcher will follow the EngD in Model-Based Systems Engineering Programme. They will be based at NPL.
