Are you an experienced Technical Business Analyst looking for a new and exciting fixed-term opportunity? 

Our Business Architecture team within IT & Digital is looking for a new colleague to work with them on the Security and Risk Programme. As a high-profile organisation, Manchester Met is subject to frequent attempts by attackers to penetrate the University's systems and infrastructure and access its data. There are numerous examples where similar attacks on other educational establishments have led to significant disruption and financial loss. 

Working in a hybrid manner, the team is in the office two days every week. Occasionally, this may be a specific day depending on business or project needs.

Role Details:

As a Business Analyst you will work within the Security and Risk Programme contributing across workstreams to support delivery of the following:

  • Governance and collateral to support a clear risk-based prioritisation within the Programme remit.
  • Application Decommissioning taking the output from previous projects and ensuring that systems no longer required are decommissioned
  • Microsoft Protection Adoption migrating our existing security tooling to the Microsoft equivalent
  • Governance & Compliance undertaking a framework and control selection and embedding this best practice
  • Privileged Access Management establishing a project to remove one of our major risks around the provisioning and access method for privileged accounts.
  • Technical Risk Reduction ensuring that the project already underway is brought into the risk-based prioritisation and financial oversight of the Programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake in-depth analysis of current business processes against the required standards identifying gaps and supporting the delivery of the solutions
  • Elicit, analyse, communicate and validate high quality business requirements that will feed into projects and programmes as part of the IS Strategic Investment Roadmap.
  • Liaise and support senior University stakeholders in the development of IT supported Business Change plans.
  • Support them in their dealings with the University IS Approval and Governance Process.
  • Work with key stakeholders across the University including ISDS Technical Managers, Technical Architects, Programme and Projects Managers , ensuring that the IT element has been correctly scoped and defined, including BAU processes required for Service Introduction.

Key Skills & Experiences:

  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst leading significant projects and supporting team delivery
  • Strong ability to collect, analyse, and document business requirements as well as analyse and interpret data.
  • Knowledge of data modelling and business intelligence techniques.
  • Proficiency in creating flowcharts, process diagrams, and models to represent business processes
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams, gathering feedback, and managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with system design, software development lifecycle (SDLC), and technical architecture.
  • Understanding of Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies, depending on the project structure.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify problems, suggest solutions, and predict potential risks.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring that no important piece of information is overlooked.
  • Strong understanding of technical concepts, such as software development, system architecture, APIs, cloud technologies and databases.
