We are seeking a pro-active, self-motivated and highly organised team player to provide research project manager support to a friendly team led by academics within the School of Health Sciences at the University of Surrey.

This is a fixed-term post for up-to 3 years with a possibility of extension to 5 years. Ideally full-time. Based at the University of Surrey in Guildford, some hybrid working possible.

The successful applicant will coordinate a large and complex £5million National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)-funded research project focused on improving the wellbeing of the UK healthcare workforce. With the NHS facing significant staff shortages, this study aims to help healthcare professionals thrive at work and continue delivering excellent patient care.

This role involves working with a national team, including a research administrator, academics from multiple UK universities, NHS senior leaders, clinicians, patients, and other key stakeholders.

The candidate will be responsible for the smooth running of the project manager elements of this project, with support from an experienced wider research team. They will oversee research operations, stakeholder relationships, ethical approvals, governance compliance, and provide financial oversight to ensure effective and timely project delivery, managing reporting, communications, and milestones while tracking progress. They will be part of a vibrant community at the University of Surrey through the Workforce Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW) expert group (https://www.surrey.ac.uk/school-health-sciences/research/workforce-organisation-and-wellbeing) and the Care Under Pressure research (https://workforceresearchsurrey.health/projects-resources/cup2/).

About you

The successful applicant requires a flexible and proactive approach with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will also have strong problem-solving and leadership skills, with the ability to plan, adapt, think strategically, and influence stakeholders while ensuring continuous improvement and effective project delivery. The role requires the ability to maintain confidentiality, strong interpersonal skills, use of initiative, and excellent attention to detail. Research project management experience is essential, with University experience preferred.
