The University of Southampton is seeking to make the appointment to the role of Control of Works Manager.

The Estates & Facilities Team ensure that the University has a built and physical environment that supports the activities of a world-class University, across a portfolio of academic, state of the art research, clinical, enterprise, workspace, residential, social amenity, sport and community facilities. Ambitious plans are afoot with an estates masterplan that will see £1bn of investment in enhancing and delivering a sustainable, inclusive estate over the next decade.
The Control of Works Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management, supervision, oversight and monitoring of Estates & Facilities’ operations and projects to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and established safe working practices. You will review and develop policies, procedures and working methods to ensure the safety of Estates & Facilities operational staff, contractors and building users.
You will oversee and ensure the use and recording of Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Permits to Work procedures. Duties also include the planning and coordination of a Health & Safety related induction, training and guidance to operational staff and contractors, maintaining associated records of training, certification, accreditation and competences.
The successful candidate will be a Health & Safety professional with a skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ Level 4 or basic professional qualification and experience with a detailed understanding of Health & Safety legislation and its practical application in a similar complex organisation, such as NEBOSH or IOSH.
