The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.
The role
Dr Nalesso's group is characterising the effect of the inhibition of a new microRNA on cartilage health. Around 10 million people in the UK alone suffer of osteoarthritis, a musculoskeletal condition promoting joint pain and impairing life quality. Currently, no pharmacological treatment other than pain relief or invasive surgical joint replacement procedures are available to treat affected patients. We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to join our group on an exciting project aimed to shape a new, non invasive therapeutic approach to halt or delay OA progression avoiding the need for surgical intervention.
About you
We are looking for a cellular biologist with expertise in one or more of these areas: micro-RNA biology, in vitro gain and loss of function experiments, biochemical assays, histology/histological stainings/scoring of histological stainings (cartilage damage and degree of osteoarthritis, both human and mouse). Ability to analyse of RNA/proteomic data would be desirable.
Dr Nalesso's laboratory is located in state of the art facilities at the Manor Park Campus of the University of Surrey in Guildford. Guildford is easily reachable by train from many cities/towns in the southern regions of the UK. Commute to and from London is as short as 30 minutes by train.
How to apply
This is a part time position (3 days a weeks) available immediately for 6 months. For informal enquires please contact Giovanna Nalesso at g.nalesso@surrey.ac.uk.
