Job description:
Do you want to make a difference to the dental health of children affected by rare genetic conditions? We are looking for a research assistant to support a clinical study of dental health in children with rare genetic conditions. The ideal candidate would have research or clinical experience of working with children and young people. Rare conditions are defined as those that affect fewer than 1/2000 people in the UK. Whole genome sequencing has identified dozens of new, rare genetic conditions predominantly affecting children.
There is little research into the effect of these rare conditions on dental development (ie abnormalities of tooth formation) or on the general dental health of children with rare conditions. This project will study the dental health of children with rare genetic conditions. Participants will be invited to attend a research visit where they have a standardised dental assessment. A detailed online questionnaire survey of dental hygiene and oral health will also be conducted. The research assistant will manage the smooth running of this project, for example arranging study visits and travel for participants. The research assistant will also play a key role in running and analysing an online survey of dental health, done as part of this project.
This post is supported by a team of paediatric dentists and a clinical academic in medical genetics. This project will provide clinically useful insights into the dental health of children with rare genetic conditions.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
