The University of York is undergoing an exciting digital transformation, and we're looking for an exceptional Assistant Director (Digital) to join our IT Services leadership team. This role offers a unique chance to contribute to a prestigious institution and its vibrant community.

As Assistant Director (Digital), you'll be at the forefront of this transformation, leading the delivery of software development, change management, and application support. You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Drive Innovation & Collaboration: Building and maintaining cutting-edge, customer-centric front-end and integration services in the cloud, leveraging Agile methodologies.
  • Influence Strategy & Shape the Future: Advise University committees and boards on strategic technology choices, shaping the future direction and enabling impactful transformation.
  • Lead Large-Scale Change with Impact: Oversee the Digital & Business Change Portfolio, managing a diverse range of programmes and projects that impact all aspects of University life, contributing to a positive and progressive environment.
  • Collaborate and Partner with Key Stakeholders: Manage strategic partnerships with key technology vendors, ensuring we have access to the best solutions available, and building strong relationships with internal teams.
  • Develop Your Leadership Skills in a Supportive Environment: Gain invaluable experience in a leadership role within a complex, yet supportive and inclusive environment. We value mentorship and professional growth.

What we're looking for:

  • A degree in a science-based discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise-wide IT and its application within large organisations.
  • Strong knowledge of current IT service delivery trends and commercially available technologies.
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with practical operational needs.
  • Exceptional leadership, management, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor your message to different audiences.
  • Proven people management skills and the ability to foster collaboration
  • Extensive experience managing the delivery of IT services in a complex, devolved organisation.
  • A strong track record of leading and managing multiple complex programmes and projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including motivational, negotiating, influencing, and relationship-building abilities.
