We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Technician to join our dynamic Faculty Technical Operations team, which strives to provide a sector leading technical support for our students and staff. The purpose of this role is:

  • Support the NXCT team of technical specialists by helping ensure the smooth operation of the lab and the equipment in it. The NXCT is a National Research Facility within the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) providing services and support relating to X-ray Imaging. The team work closely with the Department of Materials and the Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials in supporting a wide range of activities across a wide range of sectors and support the design and conducting of experiments as well as data analysis.
  • Provide support in ensuring the X-ray scanners continue to operate with regular maintenance and radiation testing, liaising with equipment suppliers when necessary.
  • Play a key role in ensuring a very high level of health and safety in the lab is achieved through management of risk assessments and COSHH requirements and ensuring the lab workspaces meet the requirements of a tidy and safe environment.
  • Play a key role in ensuring our experimental facilities run efficiently and evolve in response to the needs of the research programs. Maintain a close and supportive working relationship with the academic staff, researchers and technical specialist colleagues who are delivering research projects.
  • Support users with the management of their data, for example helping them access different storage locations and transferring physical hard drives when needed.
  • Collaborate, cooperate and work effectively with other platforms utilising facilities and platforms such as Mechanical Testing, Optical and Electron Microscopy, Workshops via the PPMS booking system.
