We seek applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Institute for Astronomy (IfA) at the University of Edinburgh, working with Prof. Ross McLure to carry out research into galaxy evolution.

The Opportunity:

The research goal of this position is to advance our understanding of galaxy evolution in general, with a particular focus on studying galaxy evolution within the epoch of reionization. The successful candidate will work together with Prof. McLure on a variety of projects in this area, depending on their experience and research interests. They will have the opportunity to engage in research that exploits the JWST PRIMER and EXCELS surveys and the ground-based MOONS MOONRISE and VANDELS surveys, as well as to lead further independent research projects. 

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.

This post is fixed term for 2 years with a start date ideally between 1st September and 1st March 2026.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • PhD (or near completion) in Astronomy or related subject.
  • Relevant research experience in galaxy evolution studies.
  • Record of high-quality lead-author and co-authored refereed journal publications (relative to career stage). 
  • Capable of working independently, exercising a high degree of initiative, and with the ability to think creatively.
