Edinburgh Napier University is an enhancement-led institution, committed to enabling students to thrive as learners through high quality teaching, research, and professional practice. We are delighted to be part of an institution recognised as #1 University in Edinburgh for overall student satisfaction for five years in a row (NSS 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024), one of the leading universities in Scotland for graduate employability (GUG 2021), as well as being a truly international University with 20,000 students from over 110 countries.
As part of our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive support to all students, the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement (DLTE) is currently seeking to appoint two full-time Academic Skills Advisers to support the student learning development journey, meet students’ individual learning needs and contribute to the planning, development and facilitation of the programme of academic and study skills workshops and online resources. At least one of these roles would be to support our taught postgraduate International students in particular.
The Role:
As someone with experience of working with students in the Higher Education sector, the role of Academic Skills Adviser will allow you to use your exceptional teaching and presentation skills to provide a diverse range of learning development support including group tutorials and one-to-one academic skills guidance, to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The post will give you the remit to draw on your extensive experience of gathering, interpreting and curating data on learning development needs and student engagement to plan, develop and teach sessions in digital and on-campus spaces. You will also have the opportunity to design interactive tutorials and engaging digital resources as part of our Academic Skills portfolio.
Joining a team dedicated to supporting students’ transitions into and through university from diverse backgrounds and different prior learning experiences, your strong interpersonal skills and significant experience of working collaboratively, will put you in a strong position to engage with other members of the team and programme/module leaders across the university in the design of open and integrated academic skills sessions.
Furthermore, as someone with the ability to relate to and understand the needs and aspirations of a wide range of students, you will make a truly positive difference in students’ learning development by offering inclusive, accessible academic and study skills guidance to help them develop as effective, independent learners and achieve their full potential.
