About the Role
This new role will join the newly-created Queen Mary and Barts Health Tuberculosis Centre, which is nested within the Centre for Immunobiology, Blizard Institute, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. The TB Centre comprises a large and growing team of tuberculosis researchers (faculty currently comprising four professors, a senior lecturer and a lecturer). In collaboration with this highly-motivated team, the post-holder will work to achieve the TB Centre’s Vision, which is to deliver step-changes in scientific understanding, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis infection and disease in East London. Ongoing programs of TB research within the Blizard Institute include development of molecular microbial blood biomarkers of tuberculosis infection and disease, research into the immunopathology of paradoxical upgrading reactions, characterisation of recognised genetic determinants of susceptibility to tuberculosis, discovery of biomarkers and host-directed therapies in paediatric tuberculosis and identification of novel drug targets.
About You
The successful candidate will make significant contributions to microbiological tuberculosis research, and to the intellectual life of the Blizard Institute. They will lead their research group by example, providing direction that will enable its success, deliver high-quality teaching which enhances student experience, as well as contributing as a senior academic to the wider achievements of the School / Institute. A collegiate and positive team player, they will energise and inspire stakeholders at all levels to mentor students and staff. They will have a commitment to the University’s values and will be able to evidence leadership in embedding the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
