We are seeking two passionate and enthusiastic Specialist/Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapists to cover a 1FTE combined post. The applicants will have expertise and experience in working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties or adults with acquired language and communication disorders.

Come and join our friendly and highly skilled multidisciplinary team working within the new, innovative Health, Wellbeing and Care Hub at the University of Essex. These posts offer varied and exciting new opportunities and have been created to extend and enhance the delivery of speech and language therapy services from the Hub and within the local area. The successful candidates will work as part of our MDT and actively engage in service planning, with the aim of delivering evidenced-based interventions that benefit the children and adults in our care. They will also focus on workforce development, offering high quality practice placements and clinical supervision, and contribute to the assessment of students on clinical placement within the Hub including SLT students and wider MDT professions, developing the future workforce through creative and innovative opportunities. 

The roles will provide experience in working within an MDT, delivering care to children or adults with a range of speech, language and communication presentations, as well as offering regular CPD opportunities and personal development with a focus on wider workforce development.

Main duties of the job:

  • Provide assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic interventions to children or adults with developmental and acquired communication and swallowing disorders, using evidence-based practice.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate treatments, and work closely with other disciplines in devising joint-working programmes for children, adults, families, carers and groups.
  • Liaise with relevant care professionals and agencies, and external partners.
  • Develop clinical educator and supervision skills, and provide high-quality clinical placement opportunities for student practitioners at the University of Essex.

This post is fixed term until 31 December 2026.

Qualifications required

The successful candidate will have professional experience or practice equivalent to relevant doctoral level research degree or have or be close to completion of PhD.

You will also possess Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate. A HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist is also essential for this post.
