The School of Management seeks to recruit a Research Associate to research the role of operations research in the adoption of algorithmic solution for public transport, leading to Net Zero.

This role will contribute directly to the vision of the People-Led Net Zero: accelerating the success of people-led solutions enabling the Net Zero transition. You will work as part of a research team within the centre to examine how algorithms and data analysis tools can support the transition to greener transportation solutions.

The ideal candidate:

  • has completed (or submitted) a PhD in operational research and/or transportation
  • has knowledge of optimisation algorithms, both exact and heuristic 
  • have published (or have a manuscript under review) in an ABS3, ABS4, ABS4* journal (the ABS list can be found here https://charteredabs.org/academic-journal-guide)
  • they are very proficient in at least one of these programming languages: C++/Java/Python

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded. 

This is a full-time role for a fixed-term period until October 2028.
