This exciting and wide-ranging post provides academic leadership for the undergraduate courses and research opportunities in years 1 - 3 of the medical degree at the University of Oxford.
The successful applicant will have responsibility for overseeing the programme of primary care courses delivered during Years 1 - 3 of the Oxford undergraduate medical degree. This will include the Learning with Patients course across Years 1 - 3 and promotion of research opportunities including the Final Honours School (FHS) programme. You will encourage all undergraduate students to consider research projects and prizes within the world-leading Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, as well as future academic Primary Care career opportunities. You will contribute to the overall work of the Undergraduate Teaching Group, ensuring our courses are relevant to modern clinical practice and follow best educational practice.
You will be medically qualified, ideally an experienced GP with a keen interest in scholarship and academic primary care. You should have experience as an undergraduate educator and understand the workings and contribution of primary care to the Oxford medical degree course. You should have excellent communication skills. You will be well organised and able to work unsupervised. You should have a good understanding of national guidelines governing medical education (e.g. General Medical Council and SAPC/RCGP).
You will be based in the Gibson Building, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG, but you will be able to agree a pattern of occasional remote working with your line manager. Working sessions will be flexible to suit the needs of the role but preferably include a Tuesday to join the weekly undergraduate teaching team meetings.
