Faculty / Directorate
Home to four specialist schools - Leicester School of Allied Health Sciences, Applied Social Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, and Leicester School of Pharmacy – the Faculty has a long tradition of providing high quality education and development to professionals who make a significant difference to lives, health, wellbeing, communities and society. The dedicated facilities are designed to replicate current practice and feature industry-standard equipment, enabling staff and students to undertake life changing projects to improve health and social care.
Role
The primary role will be to provide, under the direction of the Senior Technician and Team Leader, a technical support service primarily to students and staff within the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences. The vacancy is within the wet chemistry team and includes providing training, practical assistance and advice in the use of specialist equipment, techniques and facilities in designated laboratories and specialist teaching spaces. The post holder may also be required to support other teaching areas within the faculty when required.
The role holder will also have the opportunity to train, gain experience in and deputise for other specialist equipment and techniques within the faculty such as Mass spectrometry, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Scanning electron microscopy.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a skilled individual who is able to work effectively as part of a team to service the day-to-day requirements of laboratory and teaching areas.
They would have a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail, with demonstrable experience in a technical role providing support and advice in the use of laboratories, specialist equipment and techniques. The ideal candidate would have experience working in a technical FE/HE environment, with a range of techniques relevant to the role, such as wet chemistry, HPLC, GCs and other chemistry analytical techniques. They would also have knowledge and practical use of safe working protocols, such as SOPs, risk assessments and COSHH. They would be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and be able to work independently to complete work tasks within specified time limits.
Staff development opportunities will be considered on the completion of a successful probationary period.
