Role Overview: We are seeking experienced EAP (English for Academic Purposes) tutors to join our dedicated Pre-Sessional team this summer. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with motivated postgraduate students, focusing on criticality, extensive reading, and autonomous learning.

Required dates:

8-week course: Fixed Term contract from Monday 30th June – Friday 29th August 2025

4-week course: Fixed Term contract from Monday 28th July – Friday 29th August 2025

About Us: At the Royal College of Art (RCA), we pride ourselves on providing top-tier English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Pre-Sessional courses tailored to international postgraduate Art and Design students. Our courses are designed to foster academic and language communication skills, placing students at the core of our educational strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classes 4 days a week (9.00am-12.00pm BST), including planning, marking, team teaching, and 1:1 student tutorials.
  • Handle teaching administration, including accurate registers, timely feedback, and report writing.
  • Participate in team meetings and CPD sessions every Wednesday.
  • Demonstrate initiative in designing and planning teaching sessions.
  • Utilize technology for administrative and teaching efficiency, with confidence in online classroom software.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the team, embracing a collegiate approach.

Course Structure:

8-week course: 

  • Induction: Monday 30th June - Friday 4th July 2025 (exact synchronous dates TBC)
  • Teaching: Monday 7th July - Friday 29th August 2025

4-week course: 

  • Induction: Monday 28th July - Friday 1st August 2025 (exact synchronous dates TBC)
  • Teaching: Monday 4th August - Friday 29th August 2025

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • MA in an EAP or related field OR demonstrate significant related experience.
  • DELTA, PGCE, or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • EAP experience in Higher Education.
  • Strong systemic language knowledge and teaching methodologies in EAP and Academic Literacies.
  • Ability to work flexibly, focusing on dialogic and critical reflective skills.
  • Familiarity with Art and Design teaching contexts and current themes.
  • Effective use of technology for teaching and administrative tasks.

Desirable:

  • Fellowship of the HEA.
  • Experience in action research and conference presentation.
  • Experience teaching postgraduate and/or Art and Design students.
