We are seeking a research technician to join Dr Daniela Nasteska’s team at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) on studies related to type 2 diabetes (T2D) (https://www.rdm.ox.ac.uk/people/daniela-nasteska).
The successful applicant will work on a Diabetes UK-funded project aiming to determine protein synthesis dynamics in pancreatic islets in health and T2D. The study 1) describes the normal dynamics of protein synthesis in beta cells; 2) assesses the impact of metabolic stress on protein synthesis, and 3) looks into heterogeneity in protein synthesis across the beta cell population and how/if it changes in T2D. The work involves mouse and human cell lines and primary tissue, and relies on fluorescent markers and imaging approaches to develop a blueprint of synthesis dynamics.
Full training will be provided for all planned experimental work, but the post holder is expected to work independently when deemed competent by the supervisor. The experiments include genotyping, gene and protein measurement, immunohistochemistry and microscopy imaging.
The applicants need to have basic knowledge of biology and metabolism, ability to communicate clearly with their colleagues, excellent planning, record-keeping and time management skills.
The position is full-time, on a fixed-term contract for three years.
The position will be based at OCDEM, Churchill Hospital, Headington, Oxford.
