The Language Centre is an institution within the School of Arts and Humanities, but provides language learning opportunities for all members of the University, both students and staff, through a combination of taught courses in some 18 languages, guided self-study, as well as a programme of academic development and training for international students. The Language Centre houses an open access learning centre (the John Trim Centre) open to all and develops and publishes its own online learning resources. The role holder will take responsibility for the overall artistic design of the graphic user interfaces for our language learning resources. The role involves researching designs tailored to target audiences, consulting with content writers and educators, and developing prototypes for user testing. They will produce design templates to ensure consistency and create detailed graphics using specialist software, ensuring usability, navigation ease, and visual appeal.
Key responsibilities include creating animations and illustrations to support pedagogical approaches, liaising with content writers and developers to integrate graphic elements, and assisting in establishing a consistent visual identity. The role also involves designing promotional materials for online and print publications and offering advice on graphic-related matters, including resource management and copyright licensing.
