Purpose of the post
As Strategy Advisor, you will be a core member of the Institute’s Strategy team. You will work alongside the Institute Director and Director of Strategy, in an exciting and multifaceted role providing scientific and technical insights, alongside project management skills to support the strategic alignment of emerging opportunities across broad range of academic, NHS, government and industry stakeholders.
You will support the development of a range of partnerships and other strategic development opportunities across the breadth of the Institute’s activities to enable the use of data to generate new insights to improve people’s lives. Working with the Director of Strategy, you will ensure that all new opportunities align and augment the existing work of the Institute, working with HDR UK’s expert community across the UK and internationally. A particular focus for 2025 will be refreshing HDR UK’s AI strategy and approach.
About the role
This is a highly visible role within HDR UK and the broader UK and international health data research community, providing the opportunity to work with senior leaders and stakeholders across the health data landscape. The role offers an exciting development opportunity for an individual looking to build on their underpinning research expertise and apply this to strategy development.
We are seeking a motivated individual with knowledge and understanding across the health data research sector, looking to further develop their operational and strategic management skills.
Planning and organising
This role will work closely alongside the Institute Director and involve planning and delivering activities across the breadth of HDR UK’s programmes and will therefore require exceptional organisational skills, and a proven ability to plan and manage workload with a high degree of independence to the highest standard and to tight deadlines. The role holder will also require a flexible approach to work.
Problem solving
You will be expected to use problem solving skills to respond to and manage the diverse demands on the team. You will operate with independence, dealing with and responding to issues brought to your attention and will require confidence and resilience in dealing with enquiries, problem solving and decision making.
Communication and Influence
You will also possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to adapt these for given lay and expert audiences. You will possess the ability to build credibility and influence on complex topics, while working across a range of disciplines and sectors, engaging the health data research community across the UK.
Key contacts/relationships
The postholder will have a proactive, enthusiastic and collaborative approach and the ability to establish strong and productive working relationships with a range of professionals. While working closely with various members of the Strategy team, the role-holder will also play an important role in supporting HDR UK’s Senior Leadership Team and will work closely with HDR UK’s community of research and technology leads across the UK and internationally, and with a range of partners and key stakeholders.
