Role Description

The Centre for Health Economics (CHE) at the University of York is seeking to appoint two Grade 6 or 7 Research Fellows within the Economic Evaluation and Health Technology Assessment team on a full-time open contract (part-time applications will also be considered with a minimum of 0.8 FTE).

The research fellows will contribute to a range of projects in the field of economic evaluation applied to health and social care. Projects will include policy analyses to inform decisions in the UK and internationally, including those under the NICE technology assessment programme, as well as methods development projects.  

Role holders will be required to undertake some or all of the duties below:

  • Conduct individual and collaborative research projects, including analysis and interpretation of research data; use of appropriate research techniques and methods; writing up of research results and dissemination activities.
  • Undertake methodological research in health economics and develop research ideas in alignment with CHE’s research strategy.  
  • Provide scientific leadership of aspects of project work (Grade 7).  
  • Contribute to the preparation of research proposals (Grade 7).  
  • Contribute to the delivery of CHE’s short courses as required.
  • Initiate and develop collaborative working and foster internal/external networks.

The Research Fellows will be based in the CHE, one of the world’s most prominent academic health economics research centres. For over forty years we have been committed to the development and application of economics to promote health and wellbeing through the effective, efficient, and equitable use of scarce resources. We are a community of over 100 research staffsupport staff, and PhD students. Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

The candidate must have:

  • Master’s level qualification in health economics/economics or another quantitative subject such as applied mathematics, operational research or applied statistics
  • PhD or equivalent research experience in health economics or a closely related quantitative subject (Grade 7)
  • Knowledge and understanding of economic evaluation and health technology assessment        
  • Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
  • Ability to lead and/or take responsibility for a small research project or identified parts of a large project (Grade 7)
  • Ability to supervise the work of others, for example in research teams or projects (Grade 7)
