Director of Music

Regent’s Park College is looking to appoint its first Director of Music. The appointed person will lead the Chapel choir and ensure provision of music for weekly chapel services and special occasions, such as Christmas and Valedictory. It is expected these duties will all fall during term time (Oxford term weeks 0-9).

The duties of the role will consist of the following:

• Direct, administer, and promote the music of the Choir, including ensuring regular singing/playing/conducting lessons.
• Meet with the Chaplain in the picking of music for the weekly Friday Chapel service and other key services, communicating with the Chapel Committee, Choir and other musicians.
• Organise and print the appropriate hymn sheets as required.
• Lead the rehearsals for Friday Chapel services (this need not be on a Friday itself). Play the piano for Friday Chapel services, or organise suitable musical alternatives if conducting.
• Lead the rehearsals for the occasional services, such as Christmas services in Michaelmas and Valedictory in Trinity, taking the lead in picking music and coordinating with external musicians as required.
• Be responsible for the purchase of music, worship and music resources, services of outside instrumentalists, musical instruments and equipment.
• Conduct themselves in line with the appropriate College policies.
• Organise the tuning and maintenance of the College pianos.
