The LSE and its Department of Geography and Environment are world leaders for their research on innovation, innovation policy and the economics of innovation. Reflecting this, the Department is launching a new MSc in Innovation Policy in September 2025 and is recruiting for a new LSE Fellow to teach on the programme and contribute to the wider research environment and teaching offer of the Department.

The successful candidate will be expected to commit to working as part of a team to assist in the teaching, managing and smooth running of the Department’s teaching programmes, particularly the MSc Innovation Policy. The successful candidate will also contribute to the teaching and administrative duties of other related educational programmes; maintain and develop their own research programme; and (possibly) support the development and offer of executive / online programmes. They will organise and participate in fieldtrips and other experiential learning activities if and when needed. Finally, they will participate in the School and wider Department activities as well as carrying out administrative duties whilst fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Candidates should have a completed or be close to completing a PhD in Innovation or Innovation Policy broadly defined – including the economics of innovation, public policy and innovation policy, economic geography or political economy of innovation – by the start of the post. In addition, candidates should have a very good knowledge of the quantitative research methods and empirical techniques used in the analysis of Innovation and Innovation Policy broadly defined. Relevant teaching and mentoring experience, the ability to work in close partnership with fellow teachers and excellent communication and presentation skills are essential. Policy expertise and connections in the context of innovation, the economics of innovation, or the economic geography of innovation is highly desirable. The other criteria that will be used when shortlisting for this post can be found on the person specification which is attached to this vacancy on the LSE’s online recruitment system.
